A family business, built on the water
Bermuda’s longest-operating watersports company — still family run, still at Somerset Bridge, still obsessed with showing guests the best of the West End.
How it started
A few kayaks and a big idea
In 1986 Tony Roache started BDA Watersports with a handful of kayaks, teaching visitors and locals to paddle the sheltered bays around Somerset Bridge. Word spread. Jet ski tours followed, then motorboats, pontoons and paddleboards — and the little kayak school became the island’s longest-operating watersports facility.
In 2019, in his early seventies, Tony handed the helm to his youngest son David Roache and David’s partner Shima Sarabi. They’ve invested in a brand-new fleet — crystal kayaks, LED Night Glow boards and our 47′ Viking — while keeping the warm, personal service that has brought guests back for decades.
The young people who grew up working on our docks — and many still do — are family. Their dedication and warmth are why guests come back year after year.
